Development Services

Backend Development

A backend connects an interface to data, permissions and business rules. This can be a separate service for an existing frontend or part of a complete web application, depending on the systems you already have.

Define the rules before choosing the tools

We map which users can read or change each record, what must happen when a form is submitted and which systems exchange data. For example, a customer portal may require account-specific records and staff access, while an order workflow may need payment status checks and notifications.

Typical backend work

  • Database structure and documented API endpoints for agreed business records.
  • Authentication, role-based access and server-side validation.
  • Administration interfaces for content or operational tasks.
  • Webhooks and integrations with documented third-party services.

Integrations need clear failure behavior

A webhook may arrive twice or an external API may be unavailable. Planning should identify duplicate protection, retry behavior and how staff can see failed jobs. Credentials stay on the server; browser code receives only the access and information it needs. The exact controls depend on the project scope.

Handover and maintenance responsibilities

We agree the hosting environment, database ownership, deployment process and who maintains third-party accounts. External subscription charges and usage fees are identified separately. Share your current frontend, API requirements and sample data structure so we can estimate changes without requesting unnecessary live customer data.

Example brief: Staff-managed service enquiries

Define which fields are required, who can change an enquiry status and who can export records. Decide what happens when notification email fails. A submitted form, delivered notification and completed follow-up are separate events. The scope should identify which events are recorded and which require staff action.

Discuss your requirements

Share your requirements so we can discuss scope, responsibilities and a suitable approach.
